Meet Andrea Schwartz, LSW

Hi – I’m Andrea Schwartz – and I want to thank you for being on my page! I am a compassionate and dedicated child and teen therapist with a strong passion for supporting young individuals in their journey towards emotional well-being and personal growth. I am also an experienced individual and couples therapist. Treating the whole family is why I became a therapist.

I also provide guidance and support to parents and caregivers, empowering them with effective strategies to foster a healthy and nurturing environment at home. I believe that a strong parent-child relationship is crucial for a child’s well-being and I actively collaborate with families to strengthen these bonds.

For parents with children and adolescents:

Most children are not going to be able to sit still in a room for an hour and be able to effectively engage in talk therapy. I understand that play is the natural language of children, and through play, they can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and non-threatening way. I created a nurturing and inviting playroom where children can explore, imagine, and process their emotions at their own pace.

Using a variety of play therapy techniques, including sand play, art therapy, and expressive play, I guide children through their unique healing journeys. I am skilled at building a trusting and therapeutic relationship with my young clients, allowing them to feel seen, heard, and understood.

For parents with teens:

I understand the unique struggles that teenagers face in today’s fast-paced and high-pressure world. I recognize that this stage of life is filled with a multitude of changes, including academic stress, peer relationships, identity exploration, and emotional regulation. With a deep respect for the individuality of each teen, I tailor my approach to meet their specific needs and goals.

Utilizing evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy, I help teens develop practical skills and strategies to cope with challenges, manage stress, and enhance their overall well-being. I also integrate mindfulness and self-compassion techniques to foster a greater sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance.

For couples:

Knowing what I know about attachment gives me the building blocks to help couples learn the tools they need to start to change their communication. Using Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, I have helped many couples repair trust with each other, reignite their passion for each other, and learn the skills they need to create a strong relationship with each other and those in their home.

More about me:

I graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Child Maltreatment and Advocacy Studies in 2020. During my time at Penn State, I interned at a Children’s Advocacy Center as a child care specialist, I worked at a crisis and suicide hotline, I worked at a daycare, and I volunteered for Big Brother Big Sister.

I continued my education and graduated from the University of Denver in 2023 with my Masters of Social Work – Child Welfare Concentration. As a masters student, I interned at Central Visitation Program, where I worked alongside parents who lost custody and their children. My role was to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to create a nurturing and positive environment for their children. I also provided support to the kiddos during this frightening and stressful time.

With my extensive education, experience, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of children, I create a safe and nurturing environment where children and teens can thrive. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities to begin their healing journey!
